Does Your Online Date Want Your Money

Online dating has turned into a relief for those who struggle to meet singles in their own cities. Many researchers have shown that it is usually the divorcees who prefer this mode for meeting new partners. But those who are unmarried also seem to have no problem in using online dating services. So in a way, this form of courting is not going to go away anytime soon. But did you know sometimes it can compel you empty your bank account just out of love? When something like this happens rest assure yourself that you are doing it all for a con artist.

Actually, in some cases, the person you have found online can use emotional blackmail to get money out of you. You might not always be the victim of it unless this love interest of yours lives in a foreign country. The notion goes something like this:

  • You chat with him through either Aim or Skype.
  • This keeps happening for months.
  • He promises to visit you.
  • He suddenly gets into financial crisis for which he tells you that he cannot buy a plane ticket.
  • It touches you and that is why, you give him some money.
  • He asks you for more. This can happen only if he has more greed.
  • Then suddenly, he nowhere to be found.
So you see when someone from a dating service asks you for money you need to think twice. Perhaps, this person is really after your money. He might not say it upfront, but he will show it through self-pity which we should take as emotional blackmail.

Sometimes things can go a little ahead especially if you are a male. The woman you have met online might come to see you. But do not let it convince you that she is all too trustworthy. One of my friends’ brothers got conned by a woman whom he used to visit from USA to Canada. He paid for her tuition fees and partially financed her restaurant. But as soon when he gave her $20,000 to save her business from bankruptcy she disappeared. It just happened one day and he found himself hammering his head for trusting her. That is why; we must understand that con artists can keep playing the dating game to trap their chosen people for several months or years.

Overall, even if you fall hard for someone only to find out that they want money from you drag yourself away from them by any means possible. Otherwise, you will become a victim of a really ugly situation.
